Prelim: Statement of Intent

Statement of Intent

For my fashion magazine cover and contents page, I intend to incorporate media-language into my work by including a range of ways which can communicate meaning. In order to appeal to the specific demographic, I will need to make sure the decisions I make are made with the target audience in mind so that its true potential can be received. The camera shots will need to be considered at various points, as the image of the model is vital because it is a typical convention of magazines and the shot required on this can vary. I will need to include variation in the angle, composition, framing and shot distance and I will need to take all this into consideration when working with the camera.

The typography used will also need to be appropriate to 14-18 year olds as it  will need to link to the overall style of the magazine and can potentially make the cover look unprofessional if it isn’t used correctly with the house-style. The layout is also quite important when it comes to how the final product looks. For this I will need to take into consideration the use of graphics, colour scheme, masthead, columns and the area between image and text to ensure it all ties in well together and compliments the different aspects of this.

Furthermore, the language used is vital when portraying meaning to the audience as the tone of address needs to not only be suitable but also specifically target the demographic. The vocabulary, especially in the cover lines can be a good place to add a play on words or induce further meaning behind certain words, making the reader feels more targeted. Overall, the language used needs to be a clear attempt in constructing a particular representation of the style of magazine.
